"Please help us to preserve the unique flora & fauna of this pristine wildlife sanctuary in our very beautiful island called " Boayan Island" in Palawan. Palawan is considered the last frontier of the Philippines. The late Governor, Governor Socrates and thousands of leaders, ordinary citizens in Palawan are in the forefront of the" green revolution"and saving the environment. I, personally worked closely with the Palawan Economic Development Council (PEDC) which prepared the 20 year socio-economic development plan of Palawan. The core group from the University of the Philippines, Bureau of Agricultural Economics, under Director JesusAlex, the (NEDA) National Ecoomic Development Authority under Director Gerardo Sicat and Director Thomas Niblock with the USAID, Asian Development Bank and World Bank were all instrumental of making the city of Puerto Princesa and Palawan - the cleanest city and seeing to it that there is the balance of agriculture and forestry.

The mission and goal was to maintain and not destroy the beauty of its most wonderful, velvety beaches, preserve its flora, fauna & marine life.We believe then that the best way to attract tourists was to preserve Palawan the way it is & showcase its natural beauty and not destroy it. We see what happened to Boracay when they allowed too many construction and influx of too many tourists. The beaches became dirty and there was outbreak of water borne diseases.
There are no safeguards in place. Are we going to allow this to happen to our beautiful Boayan Island? The Queen of Spain named our city "the Fort of the Princess" because of its pristine beauty, a place fit for a beautiful princess. Are we going to allow the destruction of our God given resources -- the birds, flora and fauna in the name of greed? Are we going to destroy this God given treasure island?

It is imperative we all bond together to have this island declare a sanctuary for our rare flora and fauna, preserve for the future generations of our planet Earth. Thank you very much. " Teodora (Gaite- Yayen) Schipper.

UP Oblation

April 11, 2009
This is easily one of the blatantly sexiest academic symbol-piece of sculpture that I know of ... an inspiration for an actual 'Oblation' run of some UP fratmen ... Here, in a romantic sunset setting :

April 11, 2009 A year-after visit to a favorite waterhole since my college days .. a place of the heart that I return to again ... and again ...to calm the mind when the going was tough and just to have peaceful moments... to keep in touch with high school mates at Sunday walks ... just to see greens amidst the urban jungle ...
